Adventure Begins at Your Library

Adults, we have a summer reading challenge for you, too!

Adult Summer Reading Bingo – June 1-August 31

Pick up your Bingo card at the library or print one here: (BINGO CARD)

How to Play: For readers 18 and older. Mark the corresponding box for each title you read or listen to. Use each title only once per card. You may exchange fiction for nonfiction and vice versa, provided the book meets the rest of the challenge criteria.

Match 5 to Win: Vertical, horizontal, or diagonal. Each BINGO match counts for 1 raffle entry. Blackout earns 12 entries.

June 1 – August 31: Start anytime, but entries must be received by August 31 to be eligible for the raffle.

Prizes: Prize basket donated by the Friends of the Adamstown Area Library and two $25 Gift Cards. Raffle winners will be notified the week of September 1st

Claim a small prize from the Adult Summer Reading Prize Basket when you return your BINGO card, even if you do not complete a BINGO match!

Summer Events at the library for Adults:

June

Mah-Jongg Group – Monday, June 3 from 6-8:30 p.m., Weds., June 12 from 1-3:30 p.m., and Thursday, June 20 from 6-8:30 p.m. Experienced players as well as people wanting to learn are invited to drop in to play Mah-Jongg on the first Monday, second Wednesday, or third Thursday of each month. For adults and teens.

Friends Book Sale – Every Tuesday in the library community room. Whatever your favorite genre, you’ll find something to love at the Friends Book Sale! $2 hardbacks, $1 trade paperbacks, 50 c paperbacks, plus kids’ books, puzzles, DVDs and audiobooks. Book Sale hours are every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., except for the second Tuesday of each month when the sale will end at 5:30 p.m. for a library program. June 4, 11, 18, 25.

Young At Heart – Weds., June 5 from 9-11 a.m. REAL Life Community Services invites you to Young at Heart, with free events for anyone age 60 and up. Join us at the library for coffee, chatting, games, crafts, and more on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month. For more information, call 717-336-7797 or visit REALLCS.org.   

The Euphorigen Investigation Escape RoomWeds., June 5 at 6 p.m. Should the government add a brain-boosting supplement to the public water supply? Test your wits in this escape room by solving puzzles that immerse you in a world of manipulated media, social media bots, deepfakes and other forms of deception. Prizes will be awarded, made possible by a digital literacy grant from Kinetic by Windstream. In-person at the library. Registration is requested. For adults and teens ages 14 & up.

Sit & Knit – Friday, June 7 and June 21 at 11 a.m. Do you knit or crochet? Bring your latest project and join your fellow crafters on the comfy chairs in front of the fireplace. Drop-in to work on your craft, get inspired, trade tips, and chat in a comfortable, relaxed setting. All ages and skill levels welcome. First and third Fridays of each month.  

Technology Help – Fridays by appointment from 1-3 p.m. June 7, 14, 28. Could you use some help with your mobile devices? Or maybe you want to learn Word or apply for a job online? Come to the library! Library staff will provide free one-on-one technology training, assistance with online job applications, or help with your electronic device. Genealogy Group – Tuesday, June 11 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. This group meets at the library on the 2nd Tuesday of each month for short talks from genealogy researcher Ken McCrea, along with lively discussions and research help. For older students and adults. Beginners and walk-ins welcome.  

Cookbook Club – Saturday, June 15 at 12 pm. What is a Cookbook Club? Like a book club, members meet to discuss books and enjoy each other’s company along with some great food. Who can join in? Everyone! The meeting is a potluck meal. Each person is invited to check out any library cookbook, make an item from it to share, and offer their review of the cookbook as well as any notes or suggestions about the recipe they created. Please RSVP if possible (even if it’s the day of the event!). Bring the book along or ask at the library desk for a free copy of your recipe so everyone can see your ingredient list. 

Almost Perfect Crimes — Tuesday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. on Zoom. Join Miss Jess as we discover “Whodunit!” Upon registration, you will receive the Zoom link and the Mini Murder Mystery Story. Additional clues and evidence will be revealed during our meeting as we try to solve the crime together. For teens and adults due to some graphic content.

Survival Skills 101 / Fire – Monday, July 29 at 7 p.m. at Adamstown Grove. Join local outdoor enthusiast Jaime Winter at the Adamstown Grove for a hands-on intro to the Bow Drill, a time-honored technique for fire-starting in the backcountry. We will discuss useful materials, where to look for them and how to craft them into the tools you’ll need. We’ll cover several basic skills involved with an emphasis on safety, and participants will have the chance to build a coal with the bow drill. Jaime will also demonstrate how to successfully start a fire with a flint key. For adults & teens ages 14+. Please register.

Geocaching in the Park – Weds., August 21 at 6:30 p.m. Come out to the Adamstown Grove and try your hand at geocaching. A Lancaster County Park Naturalist will first teach you the basics of using a GPS unit that will be provided for you to use. If you have an app on your cell phone, you can also use that. There will be several hidden caches for you to find while you practice using the GPS unit along with your keen sense of observation. This is a great family activity for adults, older children and teens. All ages welcome. 

In addition, adults are welcome at all of the library’s ALL AGES events!
