It’s time for Winter Reading Bingo! To play, pick up a Bingo card from the library and cozy up with books this winter. Return your card to the library by Friday, Feb. 28 to receive a prize and enter the prize drawing.
The first box on this year’s bingo card is to read a retelling of a classic. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
James : a novel by Percival Everett. A retelling of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from Jim’s perspective.
Circe : a novel by Madeline Miller. A retelling of the myths of Circe from Homer’s Odyssey and other classical sources.
Jane Steele : A Confession by Lyndsay Faye. A dark reimagining of Jane Eyre.
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. Based on a Russian folktale called The Snow Maiden or Snegurochka.
Wicked : the life and times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. A new classic based on L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, first published in 1900.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer. A futuristic fairytale that reimagines the Cinderella story. Book 1 of The Lunar Chronicles.
A Mirror Mended by Alix E. Harrow. A modern retelling of Snow White. Book 2 of Fractured Fables.
The Healer’s Apprentice by Melanie Dickerson. A retelling loosely based on Sleeping Beauty. Book 1 of a 9-book inspirational fiction series, each based on a different fairy tale.
