Readers Choice Children’s Book Club

What will be your next “Best Book Ever!!”? Here are some reader’s reports from previous years’ book club, where we read and discussed “Super Series,” like Survived, Puppy Place, and Magic School Bus

Reader’s Reports:

9/26/17 – Our 1st Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club was a success. 12 kid detectives “sleuthed” through the A-Z Mysteries Series. They had to smell, touch & hear each bagged ingredient to try to solve the mystery before they could see & taste their trail mix snack. The club gave this series a 4-star rating and determined that it is more for early Elementary-aged children. However, it would make a very cool video game.

10/10/17 – The 2nd Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club was an even bigger hit. 14 children “persevered” through the I Survived Series. They watched a documentary of Titanic survivors telling their true stories and made a Titanic themed snack out of bananas, kit-kats and Redi-Whip. Delicious and so fun! The club loved the suspense and gave this series a 5-star rating.

10/24/17 -The 3rd Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club was so much fun. 11 kids were “observed” enjoying the non-fiction Eye Witness Series. They “looked into” the different options for this series including book, Clip Art CD & DVDs. The club made and enjoyed an “ocular” snack from yummy Oreos. The club gave this series a 4-star rating.

11/07/17 – The 4th Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club was “spooktacular.” 16 kids were “shocked” by how much they enjoyed the Geronimo Stilton Series. The club made and enjoyed a “ghostly” snack from bananas. The club gave this series a 4- star rating.

11/21/17 – The Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club had a great time during their last meeting. 12 kids told jokes to each other while discussing the My Weird School Series. The club made and enjoyed a “bizarre” pencil snack. We gave this series only a 3-star rating due to some of the rude humor content.

12/5/17 – The 11 kids from the Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club read the I Wouldn’t Want To… Series and gave it a 4-star rating. Most children thought it was full of fun facts, funny illustrations and very interesting. “Nobody would want to eat dirt”; however, we enjoyed delicious “dirt” dessert while discussing what we WOULD Want to Be when we grow up.

12/19/17 – The Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club had “a giddy up and go” kind of night. 8 kids “pulled up their britches” and gave the Hank the Cowdog Series a solid 4-star rating. The club made and enjoyed a “dog paw print” cookie while making “Back Slapping Funny” Cowboy Christmas cards.

1/2/18 – “There’s No Place Like Home” unless it is at The Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club. 7 kids “knew they were not in Kansas anymore” and gave a 3 ½ star rating to the Wizard of Oz Series. The club anxiously awaited to see what their snack might be behind the “great & powerful Oz” green curtain. Don’t be a “cowardly” lion – join us at next meeting!

2/6/18 – The choices you make could lead to your survival or demise… 8 kids got to decide their own adventure and gave the You Choose series a 4-star rating. We got to “pick” our favorite fruits to make a flavorful and tasty fruit salad. Please “opt” to join us at our next Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club.

2/20/18 – “AWWWW!” Cute Little Puppies… 8 kids had a “dog gone” great time at our last meeting and gave the Puppy Place series a 5-star rating. We found the books to be uplifting, heartwarming and full of great puppy training tips. We “howled” over a delicious dog bone trail mix and then tried our luck on guessing different kinds of dog breeds. Don’t be a “mutt” and join our “pack” at the next Reader’s Choice Children’s Book Club.

3/6/18 – “Step Inside-It’s a wilder ride!” 7 kids were “cruisin’ on down Main Street” at the Magic School Bus series. We gave it a 4 ½ star rating due to all the cool information we learned. We were going “batty” eating our delicious ice cream sandwiches. “Jump on the Magic School Bus” and join us at our next meeting.

4/3/18 – During the Reader’s Choice Book Club, 9 kids discussed the very funny Pee Wee Scout series. We played games that required team work and we made a delicious “campfire” snack. The Pee Wee Scout motto is “We love our country and our home, our school and neighbors too. As Pee Wee Scouts, we pledge our best in everything we do.”
We loved this series and gave it a 4 ½ star rating due to the emphasis on teamwork & helping your community.

4/17/18 – At the Junie B Jones series discussion, the kids from the Reader’s Choice Book Club made a “MONSTER” apple snack and played fun computer games including “The Search for Handsome Warren.” We unfortunately gave this series a 1 ½ star rating. We had some awesome and lively discussion on how Junie B Jones is hilarious and this was a fun read; however, her bad attitude is not something we want to copy.
